Jewelry tips for plus size women

Look for adjustable pieces of jewelry. It may even be possible to lengthen that perfect piece of jewelry that just doesn't fit!
You have an important event to attend next week, and you decide to buy a new outfit for this special occasion. You find an outfit to wear, a great pair of shoes, and you even find the perfect matching bracelet, but alas, this perfect bracelet does not fit! It's chain doesn't reach around the circumference of your wrist. This is a common situation for many full-figured women.

So, do you give up on the bracelet, and look for something else, or is there a way to lengthen it? Let's take a closer look at the two options:
Finding the Right Fit
  • You may often find that jewelry that is fixed in size does not fit. This type of jewelry can not be loosened or tightened, and is generally based on a standard size. An example of this is an unadjustable bangle bracelet. Often, those with wrists too large or small to fit the jewelry are out of luck.
  • Look for adjustable jewelry, and keep an eye out for items that can be adjusted to varying degrees. When shopping for a watch, for example, search for a one that has more than three or four sizings. Look for extra length, too, because you want to make sure that the strap can be fastened down.
  • Not only do plus size clothing stores specialize in clothing for the full-figured woman, they also make the latest styles and trends in fashion available to her. Many stores carry hosiery, shoes, undergarments, jewelry, and other items. If you are having trouble finding jewelry, pay one of these stores a visit. You are likely to find jewelry designed with the measurements of the full-figured woman in mind.

    Altering Jewelry
  • If you are willing to invest some time and money into a piece of jewelry that's a bit too small, it may be possible to extend it's length. This works best with jewelry that is made of standard components. These components are also known as findings. Expect to pay more for rare components, and it may not be possible to lengthen a necklace or bracelet that is composed of one-of-a-kind findings.
  • The lengthening of said jewelry consists of the addition of several links. You can have this done at a jewelry shop, or you can do the job yourself. Most shops will take a look at the jewelry, and give you a price for the job.
  • It takes a steady hand, and the right tools to lengthen your own jewelry. Obtain a small pair of needle nose pliers, jeweler's wire cutters, and a handful of links. You will probably have a lot of links left over, but it's good to have them for trial and error. Who knows? Perhaps you'll use them to do more jewelry alterations in the future.
  • You can find these items at arts and crafts stores, jewelry supply shops, and online stores. Take the jewelry along with you when you go shopping for your components. This way, you'll be sure to get a good match.
